Out...and in...

So I realize I left you all hanging...

We DID get home from CHOP on Nov 15...

It was a glorious week, Henry was so glad to be home, he began rolling again within 5 hours of hitting our living room rug to play with his toys...

I snuggled with my children, went to an amazing dinner and awesome movie (Skyfall) with my wonderful husband...

Did a real estate closing, went to prayer group Tuesday night, was catching up on some other law work (and laundry!) and began preparing for Thanksgiving...

Then Henry started running a fever on Wednesday...

And on Thursday (Thanksgiving) was feverish and uncomfortable...

By Friday he was in outright pain...

So we headed to the ER here at Lurie Children's in Chicago and Henry's white blood cell count was high and his hemoglobin was very low...

And early on Saturday morning one of the incisions on his back burst open and infection came pouring out...

Our surgeon in Philadelphia was consulted and this morning Henry went into surgery to clean out a massive infection all through his back... He has two "wound vacs" placed, one on each side of his spine...He is still intubated right now for pain control and to let him rest a bit... He was in a great deal of pain these last few days which has been very hard to control...

The hope is that antibiotics and the wound cleaning will resolve this infection so we can keep these VEPTR rods in and not have to return to CHOP in Philly...

A dear friend of mine put out a Facebook plea for prayers for Henry, asking our Catholic brothers and sisters to ask their favorite saint for intercession for Henry's healing...

Let me know in a comment if you have lifted up Henry to a special saint who can whisper Henry's name to our dear Lord on his throne...

I will be asking Servant of God Dr. Jerome LeJeune, who discovered the gene that causes Down Syndrome and devoted his life to children with that condition and other chromosomal abnormalities (like my Henry's Larsen's Syndrome)...

We ask for prayers from the living and know God will hear them, so it truly makes sense to ask for prayers from those in heaven who actually see God face-to-face...

So you have your mission!

Henry thanks you!

  2. I'm so new to being Catholic that I don't know which saint to ask... so I'll do the crazy thing and ask our friend St. Nicolas to intercede on Henry's behalf, asking for the gift of healing and freedom from pain.

  3. Carla,

Sorry I've been out of touch for so long. I do check in from time to time to read the updates! And I do pray for him and all of you. I'm asking St. Therese and Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity this time around.

    Love and hugs,

  4. Prayers going up for your sweet Henry! You have been in my prayers since his adoption. I am asking for St. Rita's intercession in his health. I will also ask for the intercessory prayers from my saints in heaven lost to miscarriage: Joseph, Mary, Matthew, and John. He will also be in our nightly family prayers! God Bless, Renee

  5. I am Christian, but not Catholic - little Henry, his family and all who are caring for him will be in my prayers, for rapid healing and control of pain, in the name of Christ, who loves all the children of the world.

  9. I've been silently following your journey and praying for Henry. Today, I pray to St. Gerard on his behalf: St. Gerard, who, like the Savior, loved children so tenderly and by your prayers freed many from disease and even death, listen to us who are pleading for Henry. We thank God for the great gift of this little boy and ask him to restore Henry to health if such be his holy will. This favor, we beg of you through your love for all children and mothers. Amen.

  18. I just read another blog that shared about Henry receiving his angel wings - oh my heart hurts for you and your family. Thank you for loving Henry and showing him what family is about - I sensed, through reading your blog, just how much you cherished him and what a beautiful life you gave him for the time you were blessed to care for him on this earth. I pray for strength and comfort for you as God guides you through this next part of sharing Henry's legacy.

  23. I am very sorry to hear about Henry. We live in Prestick, and I think I saw you and Henry at St Anthony's one Sunday. Henry looked really happy in the back of the church, where he was getting around and smiling at things in his own way. I am sure that his life was better because you and your family was in it. You are in our family's thoughts and prayers. Chris & Sarah McFadden
